It is all about coaching, and if you have a solid team of real athletes, then u have success. If NL girls was really sold, the new organization is still pulling from the same coaches in the area, and the M&D brand is not going to make a difference. The best DMV girls should just stay local. Do your HW where the top DMV HS girls played in MS, as MS is where the development happens, and you have your answer - no reason to travel to Balto or HoCo- the data does not lie.
The M&D brand is getting watered down. NL is a disaster for girls. Always has been. The PP must be a Capital employee lobbying so hard to keep kids local. Complete crap. If you live in MoCo, the really good MD clubs are just as easy to drive to as Capital practices in NoVa. The main advantage is getting your daughter in before HS as opposed to Capital which is only HS. Also the coaching in my opinion is better. Capital has very good recruiting. If NoVa, Cap is probably best fit. If MoCo, look at MD clubs a don’t buy into Capital paranoia.
Ex-BLC Hero’s dad is at it again. If the player lives in the highest parts of MoCo (Olney say), consider making the trek to MD. If mid or lower MoCo, it is far easier to join BLC which feeds to Capital. Capital splits practices between MoCo and Alexandria. BLC is doing something right on the coaching front bec both the 29s and 30s are top 20 teams. Do the math - a 25 minute drive to Alexandria half the time beats a 45 minute drive to Balto all the time.
I’d love to know the route you take to get from MoCo to Alexandria at 4:30 on a weekday that is only 25 minutes.
So that’s fair, you’d probably double that on a weekday. You’d also double the 45 min trip from lower / mid MoCo to Balto or HoCo heading 95N or 29N at that same weekday hour too. And Cap players only travel to Alexandria 1x per week (not 2x to Balto or HoCo for Md teams).
I think the whole commute thing is somewhat overblown once in HS. There are no more Spring practices, Fall usually is once a week so you just have Summer. Not saying it isn’t an issue, just pointing out that it is not as bad. Again, pick a club that is right for you and your daughter. No one size fits all.
Fall practices for HS are only once a week? I don't know anything about club at HS level. My DD is much younger and it seems all we do is drive to practice :(
