It's not homophobic anymore than calling a man effeminate is homophobic. And men who are straight can and have been called effeminate. The connotation that a butch woman is lesbian or an effeminate man is gay is very dated and no longer common usage. So, while it may be considered offensive and insulting, it is not homophobic.[/quote]
