Michelle's speech was good. Its natural to compare Michelle's speech to Ann's because were all going to to it with their husbands but the petty insults are absurd. Ann Romney made a fine speech and held her own and I think though that Michelle hit a chord with some people that made hers a bit better. At the end of the day, neither lady is going to make policy so there is no need for all this back and forth
Ann Romney's speech was completely forgettable. Michelle's speech was illustrative about her husband, while Ann's was merely filled with adjectives, not examples. I am really surprised Ann'e speechwriters did not do a better job for her. It is really Speech 101. The only thing I remember from Ann's speech was when she shouted " I love women!", which was cheesy.
I thought Romney had some good lines, but the "I love you women!" line was forced and awkward and uncomfortable.
Were they truthful?
Oh I wasn't gauging them based on that, sadly. But I really liked her line about having a "real marriage" instead of a storybook marriage. And her line about how you may not agree with my husband politically but he will fight for you everyday. I was thinking more about what sounded authentic and emotionally appealing, which is how I evaluate these kind of speeches. No way I'm voting for her husband but I try to listen with an open mind to the speeches and I'm always interested in whether the speaker is effective at "grabbing" the listener, regardless of their politics.
