Maryland, Wisconsin, and even Boulder are not safeties for anyone. Unless perhaps if you are applying to a less popular, less competitive specialty school (ag, nursing). I know of kids with good stats who were rejected from all of these schools
Nursing is a tough admit just about everywhere. Generally a little less competitive than engineering and roughly equivalent to business.
no. Nursing is not tough compared to others unless one is talking about less-selective colleges. Students who get into nursing are from a completely different "track" of high school science and math courses from the magnet publics and privates (less honors, no calculus needed)and historically have lower SAT ranges. The students in getting admitted to Arts&Sciences at T50s have a much harder path to acceptance than nursing admits. Engineering /cS are much harder than A&Sc and draw students fromthe same top honors/AP/IB course curricula as A&Sc, so there is a valid comparison to be made. Nursing admits come from very different high school tracks. Acceptance "rate" means nothing when the applicant pools are completely different. At Elon or Auburn or Boulder nursing may be harder than arts&sciences but at t50s it is the opposite.
