No california school could ever be top WASP, not when the New England schools still exist.
This must be true if a grammatically challenged anonymous internet poster says so without any elaboration.
It must be true if a striving Californian valley girls dreams it to be so. Yes, you'll totally be accepted at the top New England social clubs, despite the Irvine strip mall vibe you give off.
If you wanna clap back, you should probably proofread your zinger before posting. Your consistent grammatical mistakes undercut your insinuations about social class. Anyhow, I'm not in CA. It's just that distinguishing between any of the WASP schools in terms prestige or academic quality is as ridiculous as trying to finely parse out the prestige hierarchy of HYPSM. I suspect you know this.
There's no need to professionally proofread when you're on an informal message board. Maybe you think by nitpicking at perfectly normal grammatical simplifications you can seem somehow upscale, like you were educated at Choate? Sorry, but no amount of manner/pedantic harping is going to change what you are. You can keep LARPing all you want- the California freeway/strip mall childhood shines through.
Do you not see the irony in accusing someone of lacking refinement while repeatedly using poor grammar? Anyhow, we get it. You don't think California is as sophisticated and classy as New England. Your opinion has been noted. Now beat it.
Do you not see the irony in harping repeatedly on grammar as somehow relevant to the discussion when we're discussing a racial/class issue? If anything, you're proving the "California striver" stereotype, hoping you can distract from a legitimate discussion of an ethnic group and divert the discussion to one of petty grammar issues. Or maybe you aren't doing it on purpose, and you're truly that dense, and hoping that your focus on pedantic grammar rules will somehow elevate you to a social class you can never belong to.
I'm gave you sh*t about your grammar because your posts are weirdly ad hominem, parochial, and classist. But I think I now see the disconnect between the topics we each believed we were discussing. Rereading your first post about Pomona, I suspect you're one of the people who've misunderstood the meaning of "WASP" in this thread. Honestly, there's no shame in not being familiar with all the dorky college acronyms used here. Still, in this thread, WASP does not mean "White Anglo-Saxon Protestant." It's an acronym for four specific LACs---Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore, and Pomona---which many believe to be the top tier of LACs. Look at the very first post in this thread for confirmation. Perhaps you were trying to make the point that Pomona is less waspy (oriented toward blue-blooded white people) than Williams or Amherst. If so, I agree! And we can put this little debate to rest. Finally, not that it matters, but I'm not from California, and I don't live in California. And even if I were, it'd have little bearing on whatever stereotype you're trying to manifest about striving, grammar-pedantic Californians from strip malls. Granted, that sounds like a pitch for an HBO series I'd probably watch.
You reacted in such a bizarre way only because you were triggered, I suspect because the California characterization hit some kind of a nerve. Whether you're from suburban Arizona, suburban sprawl Missouri, random run down town in Nevada, etc, the harsh dismissal of your background landed. And hey, if there's one good thing that can come out of this disagreement, it's a reminder to you that it's time for another check in with your therapist. And that way you wont be so offended and engraged when people discuss social and class groups to which you will never, ever belong. And you can go about your day instead of melting down.
