You lost me at dad takes a nap every weekend day and leave the 8 year old to watch the 4 year old. I have a 7 year old and for the majority of his life his dad has worked on at least one weekend day leaving me to parent alone during that time. You know what I do not do, and never have done unless I was seriously ill?? TAKE A NAP. Most adults do not get to take a nap during the day. What is wrong with your husband that he needs a nap every weekend day?
OP here. I FEEL YOU. He's a napper. I don't know what to say. It's his way to recharge for the work week. I have tried to fight it for years. When we got married, he was a Ph.D. student and could take naps during the day. Some men golf all weekend. Notice how I said, men. Our culture has less of a go, go, go mentality. Most of the time, people spend with family. They aren't spending the weekends taking their kids to soccer roller skating or the movies or birthday parties. It's a very different pace of life. I have adjusted, and I like doing activities on the weekend, but DH isn't into that as much. With that said, the kids go out Sat and Sun for scheduled activities. They are away for 2 -4 hours doing activities we signed them up for.
Hire a babysitter. Or, give the kid an iPad and tell him to lay next to dad during the nap.
