SROs make schools less safe.
Agree if people wanted school safety, they'd push for common-sense gun reforms that the GOP consistently blocks.
what makes you think people aren't doing that? We can do both: push for gun reforms and have SROs? MCPS doesn't have to be a one trick pony.
This person is a one trick pony. MCPS has no control over gun laws and even if they put in more gun laws, the guns are already on the street and people ca 3-d print them. So, we need both. However, the question is why can MCPS do about keeping our students and staff safe. Hire more security, bring back SRO's, security camera's, metal and other detectors to start with. Then, start suspending and expelling violent kids.
SROs which are now actually Community Engagement Officers are not going to be coming back anytime soon. There is a shortage of MPD Patrol officers so let’s think differently about ideas to help.
Wow - it is almost like the police have been defunded, demoralized, hobbled, denigrated, demonized by one party for years, threatened with prosecution for doing their jobs, etc. Almost.
Seriously…. This is where you decided to take this. One could say it’s almost like the police have used and abused their position of authority against many people for years, essentially abandoning the rule of law to which they were sworn to uphold. For years people kept saying this was true and complaining but were dismissed until video after video after and investigation after investigation surfaced proving the complaints were true. Now that we’ve dispensed with the BS and understand that there are bad apples and good apples in all things can we actually focus on solutions that work with where we are in this reality.
And yet the SROs are still banned from schools, as MCPS descends into violent chaos. That is the reality you created for our children.
A) I didn’t create a reality for our children. If anything folks abhorrent behavior did that, B) CEOs are not banned from schools they respond according to the MOU with MoCo PD, C)There is other security staff present in schools, and D) People don’t to join the PD and other civil servant jobs (ex teachers) because the requirements and expectations are significantly higher than the salary.
