Isn't that the same thing? If 100 kids with 4.0 (assuming that's the only metric for the sake of simplicity) apply to a program with a cap of 80, they have to reject 52 kids so they can accommodate their institutional priorities. It would be something like 48 seats for high academics, 32 seats for institutional priorities (first gen, women, minorities, etc; say 40%) resulting in 52 of the 4.0 crowd getting rejected or waitlisted. VT would likely try to identity the most likely to attend (which is what yield protection is about) rather than just admit the top 52 based on whatever criteria.  [/quote]
