They come from ancient Greek where a common naming convention was a god’s name plus some. Doro=gift and Theo=god. Gift from God. Theodora was much more common because usually the god’s name came first but sometimes they were reversed. There were also the masculine versions, Theodoros and Dorotheos. [/quote]
