Hi all! It’s Lisa Gore and thank you for the discussion on this thread! I’m so excited about my run and NO - I was not encouraged to run by anyone other than my many neighbors in Hawthorne and Brightwood and a few in Riggs LaSalle! I promise you they are real people, everyday neighbors! I do not want to stop your open discussions about this race or me, but I do want you to have access to me and get to know me first hand. I have quite the story including raising my son here - he was born at 24 weeks and only 1.5lbs. We went through tough, tough times. If you saw my At Large race you saw him with me every step of the way. He’s now a second year college student at LaSalle in Philly! It can be done! And yes, I have an extensive LEO career. I started right here in DC as a juvenile, Bilingual Probation Officer. I was one of DC’s first bilingual (Spanish) POs in juvenile supervision. I worked in this role for 5yrs. I transitioned to US Customs as a Special Agent in San Juan, PR and then to the IG’s Office, HUD where I retired as a senior manager. I’ve done it all in this arena, white collar and violent crime, and delivery of services to juvenile offenders. I was a law enforcement instructor and National Use of Force Coordinator. I retired during COVID to spend time with my son - finally! I immediately jumped into community service and ran for ANC. I’m serving my second term in 3/4G where I am currently Chair. This role has brought me back to my community service roots and even though I’m in 3/4G, I get calls from all across the Ward. And I answer! Please continue with your discussions! I won’t lurk. I wanted to share some of my background and let you all know how to contact me directly if you every have questions about my campaign or need to verify information. I have the same number and email I used in the AL race, 202- 697-7056, info@gorefordc and my website is GorforDC.com. I certainly have a lot of ideas and we will be releasing our platform soon, but job #1 is serving constituents. That must be front and center. Thanks! Lisa R. Gore, Candidate, Ward 4 Council
We just want someone who takes crime seriously, for a change.
I truly don't know how to continue a discussion with a PP like this. I believe JLG is taking crime seriously. I think that she has a vision that some people disagree with. When you reduce discussion to one sentence talking points like taking crime seriously, I don't really know what you mean.
And by "'some people" you mean "people who aren't criminals"
I agree with her philosophy, and I am not a criminal. Try not to generalize please, as it makes it harder to move to substantive understandings.
It's easy to generalize about Janeese Lewis George's positions on crime. If it holds criminals accountable in any way whatsoever, she is opposed. And if that legislation was proposed by Bowser and/or (gasp!) the police department, then she is adamantly opposed to it.
From her CM site: "As a former Assistant Attorney General who saw the impact of community interventions, Councilmember Lewis George is calling for a significant increase in funding for violence prevention programs and services that reduce crime by improving the health, education, and economic opportunity for residents. She is working to strengthen coordination with federal and state agencies to address gun trafficking into the District and tighten restrictions on untraceable “ghost guns.” She is advocating for increased investments in victim services programs and has co-introduced legislation to expand supports for victims of crime. She supports providing services for our returning justice-involved residents to prevent recidivism and accelerate decarceration. And she has called for an increase in staffing in the Office of Human Rights to better address discrimination and the profound ways it impacts our residents’ security and wellbeing." I think that her platform is comprehensive and is done a disservice by the people on this thread. It feels like other posters are just repeating talking points they've seen from people on Twitter, without any substance behind their comments. This is why I'm not that concerned about a race between her and Ms. Gore. If you can show me where she is opposed to hold criminals accountable, I'm open to hearing it.
Janeese Lewis George has spent her entire time in office fighting efforts to crack down on crime. She should just own it. She's not going to convince anyone now, now that she has a credible challenger, that she suddenly actually cares about crime.
