People disappear into the wild all the time, even when it doesn’t seem that wild/close to civilization. Even venturing a few feet of the trail can result in getting hopelessly turned around and lost. Just google “missing hiker” and so many stories pop up. I make everyone carry a whistle when hiking, backpacking, kayaking, skiing, etc. If you get lost, stay in one spot and blow the whistle 3 times. I think they still tell kids to “hug a tree” if they get lost in the woods. [/quote]
