My son is at Purdue studying CS and he is thankful every second for his admission. The CS admission culture is INSANE. I will spare you the details but his stats and credentials are nothing short of awe inspiring but the admission results for the class of 2027 in CS were humbling to say the least. For us it came down to: VCU GW Purdue INSANE!!! He was WL at GT, Boulder, UVA, VT I am not lying and not biased - he has stats that would blow your mind. He is very happy at Purdue and the name recognition is amazing. It is also a direct admit program so he is a “guaranteed” CS major. This takes a ton of stress off of him; he just needs to do well in his courses and doesn’t have to worry about not getting his desired major next year. He also has NO issues getting the classes he needs since he is officially a CS major.
same for my DS, except he's at UMD, direct admit to CS with merit. He had really high stats, but zero hooks. Thankfully, he's happy at umd.
Same situation here. UMD has exceeded all expectations. Did not look at Purdue but admissions for CS last year was truly insane.
Here too. FCPS WL at UVA and NEU. Direct admit to CS w/ some merit and Honors College. Having a blast. Unfortunately that means mom and dad never hear from him and has not been home since mid-August. 😢
UMD is much better than UVA for CS. That was a much better choice. You can always go visit. Did you visit last weekend during family w/e? We want last weekend and ate at the new Y dining hall. I was super impressed with it. DC went to another more top rated college to visit a friend and said their dining hall was no where near as good. DC is a foodie. I told my spouse we should go there for dinner on the weekend every so often (we live fairly close) because it's $18 per person for dinner if you didn't get a pass, and it's all you can eat. BTW, in case you did not see this: https://nac.icpc.global/ UMD CS placed second (tied with CMU) . Purdue tied for 3rd.
