I must admit, I always thought democrats would bail McCarthy out. And maybe they would have if he had kept his debt deal promise. But he can’t be trusted. But what nut job will the GOP put in McCarthy’s place? I just don’t see any “moderate” republicans throwing their vote behind Jeffries.
I'm the one that postulated that McCarthy will retain the speakership on page 2. My thought is that the Democrats will no bail McCarthy without some major concessions. McCarthy should have been working on negotiating with the Democrats, but he didn't. So, the Democrats will vote him out. This does not mean that if he comes to them and offers them something, then they could support him for his return to the speakership. But they are not going to do so until he offers something very concrete and worthwhile to them. So, he better be prepared to offer something to them, otherwise they will not support him. He decided to play games and not reach out to Democrats before the call to vacate and decided not to start negotiating a deal. Gamble big, lose big. So he'll lose his speakership today. Doesn't mean he can't still be voted into the speakership again. So, it's time for him to reach out to the D's and start to negotiate what it will take to re-elect him speaker by offering them concessions.
McCarthy publicly threw the dems under the bus on Sunday. He also allowed the bogus impeachment thing to start. Why on earth would the Dems trust him?
Exactly. Fool me twice…..
