Reading and Writing Workshop existed before, alongside and will exist after Lucy Calkins + Teacher's College + Heinemann  + $$$$. It is an approach that responded to some of what was ineffective about basal readers, and that can include much of science of reading. It's an approach/framework, not a curriculum. It's a pity that the waters are so muddied right now by the arrogance and no[b], and the naivete of those who took the bait.[/quote]
