I make no excuse for the way the Catholic Church handled the pedophile situation and, as a Catholic, I am angry that a small percentage of priests and bishops had such horrendous impact on the lives of so many people. I need to note, though, that the organization that actually has a deeper and more systemic problem with this is the Boy Scouts of America. More than 82,000 victims have been recorded. I urge people to look up the information on this or, better yet, watch the new documentary on Netflix, Scouts Honor, which provides in-depth analysis of the problem and the litigation. I know Catholic-bashing is a "THING" ON dcum, but there is plenty of evidence of widespread abuse by other groups including private schools, the Southern Baptist Convention, and strong Jewish communities who refuse to involve police authorities. If you're looking for groups to hate, you have quite a choice.
1. Posting an article about a Catholic priest arrested for sexual assault is not "Catholic-bashing". 2. The Catholic Church has been in existence for 1,900+ years longer than the Boy Scouts of America. Pretty sure the church has a "deeper and more systemic" problem than BSA. And countless more victims.
The only reason this piece of news was posted here was so people can pick up where they left off last time airing their grievances with the Church. That is the point.
DP and not a Catholic. Yep, when op starts threads about abuse in a synagogue in Syracuse or somewhere equally distant, I’ll believe they’re serious about stamping out pedophilia. Until then, there’s a definite pattern of anti-Catholic bigotry, and linking it to pedophilia is a socially-acceptable way of being a bigot—until people see your pattern.
did a synagogue in Syracuse have to declare bankruptcy and pay $100mil to victims of child abuse? must have missed that.
