Most likely they are runaways. Just like all of the other kids they feature on these missing bulletins.
Most teen trafficking is way more complicated than that and involves grooming either online or in person.
That is what I fear happened here. When are the parents of girls in this area going to wake up to the dangers and realities of trafficking present in our community here in and near DC? When are we going to do something about it??
That’s complete and utter bullshit. It’s like you went and saw that dumb Sound of Freedom movie and confused it with being a documentary. You know, the movie that people who actually work in human trafficking say is complete and utter bullshit? What is it with right wingers and the need to be in constant fear over phantom menaces?
Oh yeah, sex trafficking in MoCo is bullshit. https://wtop.com/montgomery-county/2022/02/rockville-man-charged-with-sex-trafficking-in-silver-spring/ https://wtop.com/montgomery-county/2022/12/2-women-face-sex-trafficking-charges-in-montgomery-co/ https://www.thesentinel.com/communities/montgomery/news/crime/human-trafficking-is-growing-in-montgomery-county/article_f73ace7e-6e51-5a4b-acad-f2242c9fc34f.html https://www.dcnewsnow.com/news/local-news/maryland/silver-spring-man-faces-sex-trafficking-charges-after-person-says-he-forced-her-to-work-as-prostitute/
Agree it is a real problem and as a mother of a teen Latina, I do worry and urge caution in various ways . However, the other posters dismissing it all as runaway teens have a good point. Many of the teens do leave voluntarily in the beginning at least. I suspect reality is messy and in the middle. Vulnerable teens with mental health issues or unstable home situations are more likely to become Runaway teens. Vulnerable teens are more susceptible to teen traffickers who first lure them with compliments and fun innocent seeming outings. Since the pandemic, teens spend a lot more time on social media and online. Mental illness among teens has gone way up since the pandemic. The over sexualization of young girls online is sickening. I have had many conversations with our teen about this sexualization of teens and girls online being deeply disrespectful of young female personhood. I know I come off as boring but don’t want her to normalize the online messaging. Like many others, I have noticed that many of the missing teens are Latina or black but the most noise gets made when white teens go missing. However, I have also noticed that is getting less so and more noise is being made about any teens or young people who go missing. I appreciate all and any efforts to bring our young people home and to help them adjust to our complicated post pandemic world.
