I don't agree that their cageyness/lying will have any long-term effect whether he recovers fully or not. If he is fully recovered, he continues whatever career he wants to have. He is too accomplished and connected and well-liked for it to be otherwise.

But the obvious lying does fan the general gossip and the media interest. It just seems silly and pointless to me. He's a public figure, he and his family aren't going to get the kind of privacy most people are afforded. (That doesn't mean I think he "owes" anyone anything, but he can't stop the gossip and prying and you can bet TMZ etc are devoting huge resources to this).[/quote]
