Hispanics are flocking to the GOP in droves. The single greatest political backfire in US history will be the Democrats kowtowing to the demands of unfettered illegal immigration from the south. They're letting in millions of people who are very, verrrrry Catholic, with strong patriarchal cultures, and whom often start small businesses and hate taxes. Dems are driving Hispanics to the GOP en masse. Liberals have been saying the GOP would go extinct since about the 1950s. People just get more conservative the older they get once they have homes, have families, and have decent jobs. Story as old as time.
The birthrate is lower than ever, 50% of 18-45 yr olds live at home and millennials own a fraction of the wealth that boomers did at the same age.
And yet the US' population will keep increasing well into 2070.....because of ding!ding!ding! Immigration, most of which are Hispanics from down South. See how well it goes for Democrats over the next 40 years as they invite in millions of people per year who are super Catholic, super traditional family value oriented, who come from male dominated cultures, and who respond to politicians with strongmen personalities. Democrats are currently making the biggest blunder of all time with open borders.
You realize we need immigrants to do jobs that native born Americans won't do, right? Work on the fields, in slaughter houses, in nursing homes etc. If we don't have "those people" here then you are going to have to wipe your grandmother's ass and kill and dress your own sheep.
Do you even have a point? Guess what -; the people that do those jobs are often very Catholic and have traditional family values mindset. See what those kinds of people think about lbgtq issues, for example. Democrats are seeding their own demise and don't even realize it.
This thing you keep harping on about the grip that Catholicism has on Hispanic/Latina populations is interesting because my immigrant ancestors were also quite pious Catholics and several generations later, no one in my family goes to church anymore. Same with many people I know whose ancestors were quite religious. Religion is slowly losing its grip on Americans. And when younger generations begin to assimilate in the US, they also lose the conservative, patriarchal traditions of their immigrant forefathers. American culture is a strong influence.
+1 People in this thread are making a lot of perhaps bigoted assumptions about Latino immigrants in particular and Catholics in general. Catholics are about 50-50 on abortion. As for Latinos: “A common misconception is that because such a large proportion of the Latino population is Christian, Latinos are more likely to oppose abortion. Pollsters and strategists for both parties say that’s a myth for three reasons: Latinos aren’t as Christian as they once were, most Latinos don’t belong to Christian sects that advocate for political anti-abortion policies, and there are numerous factors beyond religion that shape Latino views on abortion. …a July PRRI study of Hispanic voters, which found that 66 percent of Hispanics overall support abortion in most or all cases and 72 percent of Hispanic Catholics opposed the overturning of Roe. Less than a third of Hispanic Catholics say their religious faith dictates their views on abortion, and only 13 percent say they look to religious leaders for guidance on how to think about abortion.” https://www.vox.com/platform/amp/the-highlight/23322487/abortion-latino-voters-roe-midterms-election https://www.prri.org/research/political-and-religious-activation-and-polarization-in-the-wake-of-the-roe-overturn/ “In an August Mi Familia Vota/UnidosUS poll of Latino eligible voters, respondents were asked whether they agreed with the statement, “No matter what my personal beliefs about abortion are, I think it is wrong to make abortion illegal and take that choice away from everyone else.” Among Catholics, 76 percent agreed, and 58 percent strongly. And even among Republicans, 55 percent agreed and a third strongly. For the first time ever, Latinos also ranked abortion as one of the top five issues facing the country — behind inflation and the rising cost of living, crime and gun violence, jobs and the economy, and health care.” https://unidosus.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/unidosus_mifamiliavota_nationalsurveyoflatinovoters_81022.pdf
