USAO Matt Graves speaking at a community meeting re: prosecution rates. https://twitter.com/FeverPotomac/status/1502278708689883142 Note, the number of declined to be prosecuted or "no papered" cases began to tick up under Obama and continued across Trump and Biden admins. The USAO is presidentially appointed but this is not an issue specific to Matt Graves. Congress needs to exercise oversight over DOJ, as well as DC AG (2 separate committees, one DOJ and one DC) and get more detailed data, esp re: violent crime prosecution rates for homicides, rape and carjackings by both USAO and AG. Recidivism rates and success rates for diversion programs is also needed so evidence based success can be replicated. In most places, ONE prosecutor is elected and has some accountability to the citizens. DC has a unique system and far too little transparency. If resources, such as a CERTIFIED lab are needed, Congress needs to address ASAP. Same thing re: USAO staffing, court resources, etc. The system of detailing lawyers from other agencies needs to end. It's great experience for them but means way too many learning curves. DC needs a PROFESSIONAL, experienced and CONSISTENT staff at USAO DC Superior Court Div in particular.
