i know many people thought the years that have gotten into RMIB, CAP and Stem at Blair.
It's rare but it happens. CAP is much more selective than many of the other regional magnets.
Not rare at all. My DC and quite a few of her other friends are in that category
I call BS on "quite a few" of those friends.
I'm not the PP and can confirm this is a pretty normal occurence. Within my child's peer group, I'm aware of four kids deciding between CAP and RMIB. A few of them have other admissions in the mix, one for Blair SMCS and a few (including my kid) for other more STEM-focused programs. But if the broader point is that CAP is not "test-in" because there's not one test that determines admissions, I guess that's true. It's true of every other magnet program in the county, however. MCPS uses the description "criteria-based" so if folks prefer that nomenclature, so be it. At any rate, congrats to all of the kids who were admitted. It seems like a great program, and a high calibre of students based on those who presented last night. Given my child's specific interests (including a desire to study in our family's home country), I think they will be accepting RMIB over CAP, but that's just personal circumstances rather than a sense that CAP is anything but excellent.
