In all university decisions that don't involve primadonna children lamenting that they want an "intimate environment" or some such sh*t, you go to the higher ranked program unless it is substantially more expensive. In this case, the higher ranked program (UMD) is substantially less expensive. There is literally no reason to even be "making a decision" here. It is clear which alternative dominates
Northeastern is ranked higher overall but slightly UMD is ranked higher in CS program but slightly It's a matter of personal preference and situation
I'm honestly surprised (and a bit suspicious) that NE is actually ranked that highly in CS. I can honestly say I've never interviewed or worked with a CS grad from NE. I can't even remember seeing a NE resume (I've looked at thousands), but it's possible I just don't remember. Name any other top CS school and I can rattle off any number of people I've interviewed and worked with.
U S News has Maryland computer science at 17 and NE at 34, pp cherry-picked the ratings most favorable to NE.
34 in CS is great. U S News has 44 NEU 55 UMD for overall undergrad. Again, both are not significant ranking wise, so all depends on your personal preference and situation.
The undergrad rankings are more easily manipulated, which Northeastern has done. It’s not as strong of a school or program. They just make it appear like it is through their various schemes.
Sorry thats your imagination. if cost is no issue, general public choose Northeastern.
Sorry, not my imagination. Let’s see— no supplemental essays and fee waivers to drive up applications, followed by trying to push kids into ED and taking vast majority of class that way, combined with pushing kids to crappy satellite programs. I’ll stay away from any school that has to resort to such measures to climb the rankings.
Most large schools do the same exact thing -so what? Your number of schools will be extremely limited, if try to find one that does not.
No dog in this fight but I don’t think this is correct.
