https://news.stanford.edu/2022/11/25/information-lawsuit-family-katie-meyer/ Stanford's response. Once the family learns the evidence against their daughter, this matter may come to a swift resolution. Everyone regards this as an unnecessary tragedy.
I read this as Stanford attempting to intimidate the family. FWIW I live near Stanford and the general feeling around here is that is what Stanford has done.
That is a strange reaction. How is detailing all the steps taken and the help offered to Katie an attempt to intimidate? Stanford describes her actions as allegedly causing “physical injury.”
Which means it was minor at best. You can be certain that if medical treatment had been required, for instance, that would have been noted. I am extremely skeptical of Stanford’s response here. This is an intimidation play by Stanford, no question. They want her parents to drop the lawsuit because they don’t want the details to become public.
+1. The involvement of the Dean, the robust collection of comments in the disciplinary case from the football player’s mother, teammates, etc., and the fact that the football player did not initiate the complaint all make me suspicious about additional details that aren’t included in the parents’ filing. There are two big gaps that only Stanford can fill in: what happened between the sexual assault and the coffee, and what happened between the spill and Dean Caldera initiating the disciplinary process.
+1 And that’s information Stanford clearly doesn’t want coming to light. They’re effectively trying to threaten the parents by implying Stanford is willing to drag their dead daughter’s reputation through the mud. It is despicable behavior from Stanford, just awful.
