You know the GOP folks are completely bat crap crazy to quote another poster. Any Dem votting for Reardon is not an actual Dem at all. Not an Elrich fan either, but the primary was the time to take care of that, and there was no decent candidate, so were stuck with him again. Please don't vote for Wells for Board of Education. She wants to stop CRT (which isn't taught in MCPS), and is on the Board of an anti LBGTQ+ organization. We don't need that kind of hate!
I am not sure what this CRT talking point is about. If CRT is not taught, then there is nothing to worry about? Also, Wells is on the board of the largest Black church in the county. Nice way to frame it as an “anti LBGTQ+ organization”. Is Rivera Oven Catholic? Might be about to say that is is a member of an “anti LBGTQ+ organization”.
This is the organization she's a member of. Frame it how you want, they're a homophobic organization. I don't vote for homophobic people. https://icog.org/values-beliefs Scroll to the bottom and you get to this. HUMAN SEXUALITY The Bible teaches that legitimate sexual relations are exercised solely within marriage. Hence, this Church opposes all forms of sexual immorality, including adultery, homosexuality, and pornography. (Rom. 1:18-32; Hebrews 13:4) Here she is, trustee board member. https://icog.org/about
Omg it’s a CHURCH! Most denominations oppose religious marriage for gay couples. Nothing to worry about with separation of church and state .
First off, I believe in gay marriage. Second, this isn't "religious marriage". It's "homosexuality". They oppose BEING GAY.
Let me introduce you to the Catholic Church. https://www.hrc.org/resources/stances-of-faiths-on-lgbt-issues-roman-catholic-church Homosexuality is a sin. Transgender identities are not recognized. No recognition of gay marriage. Gay people cannot be admitted to the clergy. It looks like in your rush to condemn this woman, you are being a religious bigot, unless you also make sure to go after Rivera-Oven’s Catholic faith.
http://davidfishback.blogspot.com/2022/09/two-problematic-montgomery-county-md.html?m=1 Unlike the answers to the Metro DC PFLAG questionnaire provided by Ms. Rivera Oven (and Ms. Silvestre), which were full-throated affirmations of the MCPS approach to LGBTQ+ matters in recent years, Ms. Wells’ answers, for the most part, were not responsive
You are changing the subject to evade the point that you are a bigot. You took issue with Well’s being a member of a Black church that you felt was anti-LGBTQ. Rivera-Oven is also a member of a church that is anti-LGBTQ. You are now pivoting to whether or not one candidate has filled in a LGBTQ questionnaire sufficiently positively. Let’s get back to the first question, should Rivera-Oven’s membership in an anti-LGBTQ church exclude her from being able to serve on the BOE? Yes or no?
Being a black church has nothing to do with this. I’m a pansexual transgender person and I would never vote for a candidate that isn’t absolutely clear in their policy on LGBT rights. You’re conflating membership in a church with being a high level board member. One is common and she has given us her views. The other is very uncommon and she was evasive on her views. The fact that she can’t just say she supports queer kids in MoCo schools and her weird beliefs on CRT are enough to say that she is a conservative. I do not vote for conservatives.
Unless you can specifically define the level of activity in an anti-LGBTQ church that is problematic versus okay, you are just making excuses for your bigotry.
It sounds like she’s the one that’s bigoted to me based on her non answers.
Liberals like you are why this is happening. Weaponizing bigotry while disturbingly trying to wrap it as inclusion. https://morningconsult.com/2022/11/02/republicans-outperforming-2018-margins-among-voters-of-color/
What a weird thing to say. The transgender person is responsible for demographic changes in voting because I don’t want to vote for someone that won’t vocally support queer kids in schools. Yeah I’m the reason for it 100%. Blame the gays.
Sorry to inform you that your identity does not make you immune from bigotry. Go cheer the victory of your candidate who is an active member in a church that doesn’t recognize your identity.
