Multiple generations--including the women--who attended elite educational institutions. Not just the Ivies, but also the SLACs that are unfamiliar to all but the well educated. Naturally, this level of education will mean some money, but not necessarily. Old money means that some members of the family will be academics and artists, who have just enough money, but not as much as other members of the family.
Not necessarily. In southren states, old money often attends flagship state schools or religiously affiliated private schools.
You are right; however, people in southern states are really weird about money -- pretending to have it, or being old money, or acting like they are rich when they are 100K etc. Southern girls got a lot they have to take in, and they have my sympathy.
