I don't think Curie is a big thing in Fairfax. They were mostly teaching to Loudoun students, and was the bulk of Loudoun admits to TJ.
All I know is most of their students get into TJ, so worth every $$$$!!
You do not know this. It is not known how many kids go to these classes, but I am guessing it is much less than half that get in.
The ad that Curie put in the paper a few years ago claimed that over 30% of the TJ entering class were their clients. I can only imagine what percentage came from the other prep centers. I mean do any kids get in without prep these days?
There have always been plenty of kids who get into TJ without prep - and by prep, I mean "expensive boutique enrichment programs specifically targeted to the TJ admissions process", not "general academic enrichment". But in the last few years before the changes to the admissions process, prep had become fairly ubiquitous within certain communities. There were approximately 195 students of South Asian descent admitted to TJ's class of 2024 (source: the yearbook) and Curie claimed 133 in that year. Curie's named list is 100% South Asian. The South Asian community, of course, is not the only one where families interested in expensive prep exists. Simple extrapolation would suggest that a very strong percentage of TJ's Class of 2024 families engaged in this behavior prior to admission, unless one believes that it is only the South Asian community that makes this level of investment (which I do not).
