[quote=Anonymous]My kids are in their 2nd year at Shrevewood Elementary. But that probably doesn't fit with most people as it's a VERY diverse school and OMG!!! we get kids that live in apartments..... :!: and we have lots of kids on the free and reduced lunch program. Shrevewood won the Governor's Award in 2010 and we just won 2012's Education Excellence Award. But then again we have foreign kids who come from different countries, as well as mixed kids, along with kids from gay parents...... you probably wouldn't want your white child to associate with these kids. FWIW - OP. I really like our school it's a great community and the new Principal is great. Is the school perfect, NO! What school is? The teachers (I have interacted with) are warm and eager to do the best they can with the tools they have! As a child of immigrant parents who knows what it's like to be in a classroom full of kids that I didn't understand.... and now no one would NEVER guess that I wasn't born here if I didn't tell them on occasion ..... of course I have to be careful who I tell, they may not want to be my friend when they find out I'm not really white  The point here is people, if we continue to try to put our children in a place where "WE" feel is best for them --- ie an affluent neighborhood with only white people (using this just as a generalization) then what exactly are we teaching these kids who hopefully one day will be leaders of this fine Country? America is filled with immigrants of different parts of the world, let your children be friends with these kids and associate with them. I find it so rich that when we were visiting a museum in NYC recently my 7 year old said "this display is from Indonesia, my friend ___________ is from Indonesia and in Indonesia, they eat this and do this. Let's all step out of our shallow boxes and explore the culture and people we have as neighbors, co-workers, grocery clerks, etc. Do not judge people based on the color of their skin or their country of origin, look at people as PEOPLE and not how rich they are or what house or car they have!
