Are you open to going by train/park &ride for your commute into DC? That can open some things up. Drive 10-30 minutes to metro or commuters train then hope off new the office. Or metro/bus combo?
I did this for a couple of years while living in a different city. Rode a commuter train, roughly an hour each way. Not having a commute is definitely the best option, but if you must have a commute, I *highly* recommend the train. I could either work or zone out, and either choice was 1,000x better than having to drive. There were a couple of times a year where the trains ran extremely late for one reason or another, and occasionally I had to work later than the time of the last train. My work hours were flexible and we could take a car service when we stayed extra late, so those situations represented headaches rather than emergencies. But it’s something to know about and plan for if you do consider the train option.
