I’m a former family law attorney and a former prosecutor who handled child removal cases AND involuntary commitment proceedings.

Britney’s parents did not have the power to take her kids away from her absent her having a serious, debilitating mental illness. Britney had plenty of money to hire skilled attorneys when all this first happened back in the day. So she is either a total idiot, which her fans insist she is not, or she is in fact seriously mentally ill. Yes sometimes conservatorships are abused and/or are abusive, but that fact doesn’t equate to Britney’s being either. The court scrutinized her conservatorship regularly and she NEVER ASKED FOR IT TO BE REMOVED. Is that because she’s an idiot? Or because she was to busy being seriously mentally ill to make effective arguments that she should be let loose on the world without any guidance and/or requirement for mental health treatment?

We will all see, I have no doubt, what the answer turns out to be. Thus far since being ‘freed’ from her conservatorship, Britney’s public actions re: social media haven’t been the best evidence of a stable mind. In her objections to her conservatorship she railed against the requirements that she attend regular therapy, so one can only assume she’s quit that since she was ‘set free.’ Let’s see how she manages pregnancy and post partum without benefit of a therapeutic relationship with a mental health provider. Maybe it will all go swimmingly - I certainly don’t wish her to fail, as that just means another baby struggling with a mother who doesn’t fully participate in bonding which will only exacerbate the genetic tendency the baby will have for developing mental illness itself. Your credentials don’t bar you from being an idiot for opining on something you clearly don’t know anything about. Britney had a court appointed attorney. One who was friends with the judge at the time, who was guaranteed a monthly salary. Can you please explain why that person would advocate to terminate? Do you know the ACLU filed an amicus brief to support Britney being allowed to hire her own attorney? Her financial co-conservator stepped down saying that them staying involved would cause Britney irreparable harm, which is when the tide started to turn.

It was also reported when the conservatorship was first implemented that Britney’s phone was confiscated because she reached out to an attorney. She was not permitted to drive, could not make any health decisions, and had to perform against her will because she was not legally able to sign contracts.

Her fathers attorney was asked on tape, in The NY Times documentary, if she had ever seen a conservatorship terminated. No, was her answer.

Britney was clearly troubled, but disability and human rights activists prefer supported decision making agreements over conservatorships.

Besides, look at how biased you and so many op’s are. You think she’s mentally I’ll because of social media postings. Britney was the most profiled celebrity if all time at that point and the media made hundreds of millions off her being a “trainwreck.” How the hell was she supposed to get a fair trial? She may have been troubled, but the media, the courts, and her family failed her.

I understand the free Britney movement but I don’t understand how they can feel she is well enough to manage her own life. If nothing else, she has not lived as a functional adult - ever.  Her ramblings don’t make sense. She barely has an education. She doesn’t know enough to know she needs support - not to pop out another kid with the first guy who pays her attention. This is the cycle of her life repeating itself and I will predict her implosion in a few years - plus a few kids unfortunately along for the ride. [/quote]
