I received an athletic scholarship offer from Wake and being a poor single mother kid from Chicago who got into U of C as well, Wake was preferred over U of C for me. I held no illusions - U of C was and is one of the most rigorous schools in the country. But Wake at no cost to me? In a Power 5 athletic conference? Not a close call. I did receive an athletic scholarship to Duke and went there, a school arguably equal to U of C. U of C was a better fit (other than the national class athletic thing) because I was an outcast as a poor kid at Duke. The education was excellent and I learned how to compete academically. My rival did take the Wake offer and did well in every aspect there. He was African American so I would not rely on stereotypes. There are lots of reasons people choose schools. I thought Duke was physically beautiful - but Wake was stunning too. [/quote]
