Mrs. Katie West was just selected this week to be the permanent principal at Bayard Rustin Elementary. She's been the Acting Principal, and has been with the school since it first opened a few years ago as Vice Principal and Principal Intern. (The original principal left at the end of last year to take a position with the central office). We've been happy with her. Granted, we haven't had to navigate any specific situations, but we've found her friendly, accessible, and responsive. She's at all the PTA meetings and events, sends out a lengthy weekly newsletter, and has been quick to get additional staff to handle an influx of new students over the course of the year.
Hope your kid doesn't have a problem with a bully. Or a teacher who can't control the classroom. Because she has proven incapable of handling situations like these. She's exactly the kind of person who will have a long tenure as an MCPS principal. The truly great ones like Ms. Dubois get yanked up to the Central Office.
Depends. Central office also yanks the underperforming ones, and ones who make big mistakes.
