We do not have the staffing to make it optional. All kids need to eat inside or all outside. Not enough staff to add another location to eat.
Okay. Good rule that November through end of March should be indoors. We can't cater to the crazy minority who don't eat inside at restaurants. The COVIDian cautious can organize their volunteer drive to staff outdoor lunch in the 35 degree weather for their children (like crazy people). These are rituals taking on way more and more of a religious level significance, like Muslims only eating while the sun is set during Ramadan and Jewish people fasting on Yom Kippur.
Right like the people afraid of their kids going outside aren’t a crazy minority?
No one is afraid of going outside. We’re saying it’s ridiculous to force kids to eat outside when it’s cold and everyone is vaccinated. Recess is fine.
Please clarify why recess is fine but eating is not?
Do you usually eat and run at the same time? People tend to feel a lot warmer when they are moving around vs sitting still.
I eat on the run all the time. :) Seriously, I think you're misguided in thinking little kids are spending 20 minutes sitting and calmly eating their lunches. A lot of parents complain their kid is wolfing down their lunch in 5 minutes so they can run around and play. If a school is making all the kids sit until everyone has been served and finished like they do for indoor lunch, then that school needs to change its ways. Do you take your kids to outdoor sporting events in the fall and winter and early spring months? I recall some pretty darn wet and COLD soccer games for mine; and they aren't all on the field at the same time - some are standing (gasp!) on the sideline in the cold rain/even snow, waiting for their turn to go onto the field. I guess Child Protective Services should be called for all those parents letting their kids play little league baseball and dragging those little siblings to the games that can be quite chilly and windy, too. Talk about sitting around! there's a lot of sitting and standing around in baseball. Ever take your kid somewhere where they have to stand in line for a while in the cold? Nobody ever takes their little kids to Wolftrap for the Marine Band holiday concert.....to sit in the cold in the middle of a crowd with nowhere to go or move around? Inhumane to take little kids to a high school football game where they sit on cold open metal stands with wind and cool/cold night temperatures? Heckuva lot longer time to sit in the cold not moving around. Ever consider that your kid gets much colder spending an hour or more outside on snow days sledding -- and moving around -- than during the max 10 minutes eating their lunch outside on a dry 50-degree day? If you're guilty of any of these things or anything similiar, shame on you! You are an abusive parent and have ruined your child for life. You have no concern for the physical well-being of your own child. And if you haven't dared to speak up to stop others doing the same to your children, that's just unbelievably ignorant and narcissistic.
