Its ceremonial. A photo op. know it will never happen - but - I would like the clubs to post the amount of scholarship money rewarded per recruitment class. I bet that would change a lot of parents perspectives. Here’s the reality - either you pay to play in college or they pay you to play
Although that’s a zippy sounding phrase, it doesn’t really make a lot of sense given that you pay to go to college whether you play a sport or not, in most cases. Your pipe dream re clubs publishing scholarship amounts by class would certainly provide months of entertainment on DCUM every year, or maybe just the first day of the first time because posters would violate player privacy every which way while debating which kids were good enough to earn X dollars of the club’s posted scholarship total. That being said, if you are in the club and your kid is recruited, you will probably have a good idea for your kid’s class. Kids talk freely about this stuff amongst themselves, IME, and parents reach out to other parents who have been through the process for advice.
Breathe - I’m talking yearly lump sum - not by player. And no, it will never happen. My point is that young parents typically see a big name school and assume that the club is turning out extraordinary players which in turn leads to interest in the club. There is a massive reality check when you know the offers being given.
Why are you concerned about my breathing? Unless this is your very first day ever reading or posting on DCUM (?), you can’t be this clueless. What do you think would happen if say, FCV, posted the aggregate athletic scholarship number for the committed players in the class of 2022, along with their list of commits? Posters here (and the overly-keen elsewhere) would absolutely post their guesses about what percentage of the aggregate each player was receiving, and insult the abilities of individual players while doing so. Everyone else would be here with the popcorn until Jeff shut it all down. Besides, I’m not sure who would be helped in your hypothetical scenario. It’s not clear why you think that all parents of young players are ignorant about how the recruiting process works, including the odds of getting significant scholarships. Most every soccer parent I know has a pretty good handle on the cost-benefit analysis or doesn’t care about a return on investment at all.
