On TV shows the parents of teenagers look so relaxed in the mornings. Drinking coffee, eating breakfast and reading the newspaper. Their teen comes in, they chat for a few minutes, the teen grabs backpack and a bagel and off they go to school. Compare that with my mornings trying to get a 4yo ready for preschool dropoff while not completely ignoring the baby. It’s a whirlwind! Yeah I know, teens come with a host of other issues, but I’m looking forward to having independent kids!
You had me at "tv shows" you do know tv shows are not real life? I wish you luck trying to get teens to go to bed at a reasonable hour so they can get up at an unreasonable hour!
You don’t know any self-motivated teens who want to get to school on time and do well in their classes? Sure they might stay up late studying, so you have to enforce bedtime sometimes, but certainly not sneaking in past curfew and drinking/doing pot on weekdays.
Oh my God! The cluelessness here is just astounding! The two are not excluding of each other! Kids can be self motivated and want to do school great and be sneaking and drinking! In fact, most teens want and do both!
How do you know what most teens want? And this poster only made this comment because so many say, keep them busy and they some how magically will turn out great. Ppl seem to believe kids who have free time abd are overscheduled will never do any wrong.
I know bcs I worked with them, I had them, I know all their friends, I have one in sports now in college doing his sport... I know dozens and dozens of their friends, I have nieces and nephews who were and are teens. You know, bcs DD wanted to be a great stupid and still wanted to drink and party. And well, she didn't part by herself! Bcs I sat next to parents like you, who told me how lucky they are that their teens are so studious and not into the party and drinking scene... and I saw those teens skipping class, smoking pot and making out behind the school!
Sorry, but you can’t be a great student if you’re drinking and smoking pot every night. Maybe you can manage it one night a week, but that’s about it.
