The $3.5T bill is ridiculous. It's not clear what is in it and no way to balance it with future revenue. We are spending money like it grows on trees.
Limits and cuts are coming. :) Late last week Biden held marathon meetings with nearly two dozen progressive and moderate lawmakers to get his agenda passed. He's now considering limits to tuition-free community college and universal childcare to cut down the massive, progressive-backed $3.5 trillion package in a bid to pacify moderates and spending hawks. The White House and Democratic leaders are weighing attaching or strengthening income caps to a number of key agenda items, according to two officials familiar with the discussions.
I hope the the child tax credit income caps are $150,000 per household because what it is now is ridiculous. Why are people making $400,000 getting paid $1,200/month for four children?
As long as families with two healthy adult parents but only have one income (ie having a stay at home parent), we should not be penalizing high income households. If the government can subsidize the life choices of those who dont want to work, they can also provide benefit to those who do work.
If one person is choosing not to work that's on them. But the household is still making $400,000. There is no reason the income limits are this high.
