FC Dallas has a much better academy setup than DC United, which helps a lot. Now they're connected with Bayern so it's only going to get better in attracting and then sending top players to Europe.

Knowing a few kids that played for DCU, they didn't want any part of it after youth careers or even if they could have been homegrown players after college.

Also, while Texas is football dominant, it is sports-mad across several disciplines. Volleyball. Soccer. Basketball. Baseball. It seems there not the same value on sports here, which is fine. But when kids are lifting in elementary schools to be football players in high school, you can kind of get where the mindset of parents and kids are in terms of making athletics a big part of life.
