I won a full ride to college a decade ago and it was published in the local paper. Fifteen years later, I've been told in job interviews that "someone so privileged doesn't need this job, honey. You got a full ride! Why do you want to work?" by people from the area who still remember. It is like winning the lottery and the resentment it fosters will follow you around if it gets out. I'm a trained teacher, btw, so these comments were made in that context. Experiences may vary depending on the industry.[/quote]
