I don't think the disparity is as large in MoCo but bear in mind Hogan only gives  a small share of doses to county health departments, as you know many MoCo residents are traveling out of county to state run mass vax sites (which just exacerbates the statewide inequity - not blaming those people but [b]Hogan should really be making sure people in PG and Baltimore can actually use the mass vax sites[/b]) or snagging appointments at Giant/CVS/Safeway.[/quote]

(I’m not asking in a combative way or to be a jerk) How can Hogan make sure PG residents use the mass vaccination sites? I watch his press conferences and from what I understand is there are several sites in PG that are exclusively for PG residence that are located at churches, community centers as well as the health departments. I also think there have been days set apart specifically for county residence at six flags. To encourage more poc people getting vaccinated, there are campaigns specifically geared towards those communities featuring come in at black and Hispanic members advocating for the vaccine.[/quote]

DP.  What else, specifically, should the state be doing? I know of several non-tech savvy older people who were able to get appointments at the six flags site over the phone.  And when the state only sets up two mass vax sites in the area, of course residents will come from other counties.

Two of the primary goals from a public health perspective are to 1) vaccinate as many people as possible, and 2) vaccinate as many vulnerable/high risk as possible.  When your vulnerable/at risk population is eager to participate, as most elderly are, you can accomplish both goals at once.  But when the vulnerable/at risk are hesitant and need some extra attention, it slows down goal #1.  Conversely, if you abdicate any responsibility to reach out to the hesitant, it slows down goal #2.  It’s a balancing act to figure out how much to prioritize one goal over the expense of the other.

I've already answered your question, and I'm not going to keep going round and round while you insist Hogan is doing enough and I explain that the data clearly show he is not. You want to take him at his word that it's the fault of POC for not wanting shots, go ahead, ignore the data and anecdotes that clearly show that is not the case. You think his press conferences about mobile vac sites make him amazing , go ahead. Have a great day.[/quote]
