Totally agree on the playups being a problem at Metro. Nothing is more discouraging to a player, especially girls, than to see a marginal play up who can hardly compete at the level they are being asked to play starting ahead of a solid player at the appropriate age level. This has been the culture at Metro since the beginning, favoritism of a few players and playing them up as a reward to the parents. It's also what has driven many good players away from the club, and it doesn't appear that will change anytime soon.
There aren’t play ups on the 07 team. There a few play ups on the 08 team. I’m not chasing a badge. my dd plays with players that are close to her level, which is why we go. We also like the coaches. Every one makes their own decisions, so please have respect for mine.
Makes no difference to me if you donate your money to Metro but public should be informed about these clubs pros and cons. New try outs should be advise to look elsewhere if your looking for a good club that will A) challenge your daughter with having high level talent around her. B) have acess to good coaches C) have repution of success. Like it or not winning does show some form of success, others will argue that clubs just pick the most athletic kid but isn't it possible the coaches/philosophy did work and somehow made a good team?
