Zero chance it doesn’t pass on 2/2. The only thing that vote will tell us is whether elementary goes back 2/16 or 3/3. I’m a high school teacher and I am fully, 100% expecting and planning to be in the building on 3/3 with the 7 kids who chose in person and come to my B day classes on Wednesdays.
Agreed. And I strongly suspect that they will send elementary schools back on 2/16. Ziegler said that he's expecting all teachers who want a vaccine to have their first dose completed by next week. By the week of the 16th, many teachers will have had their second dose, and Morse advised Ziegler to consider prioritizing the teachers returning to classrooms first. Not sure if they'll be able to do that or not, but the entire workforce (those who want it) should be vaccinated by 3/3 at the rate they're going with the pod.
The vaccination rate is entirely beside the point as it was never a factor of reopening. I mean it’s nice for teachers that it happened but in terms of them holding off or making plans around who has gotten it or when , that’s not going to happen.
DP. I agree it was not a factor in reopening. But since vaccines are happening, and returning some staff on 2/16 does make it harder for them to get their second dose (since Ziegler said they cannot hold the POD with extended hours) I can see certain board members voting for a 3/3 return for all. The only question is which motion gets 5 votes.
Yes. 3/3 is for sure happening, the elementary date is the only one in question. If they need rhe nurses to staff the POD, it makes sense just to send all 3/3. For elementary hybrid kids that is only 4 in person class days of difference. But if they say 2/16 I know my first grader would be happy, I can hear her in a breakout room right now with her peers sh*t talking DL, she’s over it. (My 5th grader loves it though)
Does your 5th graders likes DL because of the freedom ? In my opinion, the older kids love DL because of the freedoms they have, they can be laying in bed, eating and using the bathroom without permission.
No. She likes it because for her school has been a major source of anxiety and here she feels completely relaxed. She’s participating in ways that are comfortable for her, making a LOT of progress, and feels so much more able to learn because the anxiety is gone. She’s a kid who hates specials, hates how loud and chaotic school is, and she is soooo much more dialed in and happy doing it from home. She has some learning disabilities that DL has been very great for; lots of time for 1:1 support with her support teacher if needed in a breakout and man, they hold her accountable. She doesn’t take advantage at all; she has a desk in our kitchen and does all her work there. She’s definitely not doing it from bed. Kids should be able to use the restroom whenever they need no matter what though.
