Wait, there is an enclosed playground area, and OP was in it? And some other people were in it too? But, they had no masks? And we don't know where this horror took place?
Enough with the shaming, OP. These moms chose a relatively safe way to socialize. Stop judging others or “Stay the f*** home”.
Why not wear a mask, though? Why not to afford others a safe way to socialize?
Because socializing outdoors with a mask is low risk as is socializing outdoors without a mask. Maybe these moms needed to have real social interaction and see each others’ faces. Socializing outdoors is low risk in general and policing others with your superfluous mask rules isn’t helpful. Personally I am happy that people are finding less risky ways to get their social needs met. You have no idea what mental health challenges others are facing right now. I wish more people would look at the messaging that Julia Marcus has put out regarding risk reduction.
Well, why is your concern about the mental health is focused on those who don't wear masks? Do you know OP's mental state or physical health? You are fine with sacrificing her health and subjecting her to anxiety and isolation?
No one put a gun to OP’s head and made her stay near these women.
They blocked the way, no gun was needed.
OP admits she left freely without issue.
Right, she was forced to leave by their behavior. She could not use the area, though.
She could use the area. She wanted the group to follow her rules, rather than the existing Covid rules and chose to leave.
The existing “Covid rules” in DC require wearing a mask in public. She was forced to leave by people like you who’d rather be an asshole than follow the rules.
I think this is part of the problem. I'm in MD, so I don't know the details of the DC rules, but people are VERY confused about the MD rules. When the local gov put out the mandate that masks must be worn outdoors, they had to issue a clarification because it made no sense. And now the rule is that you must wear a mask if you have a prolonged exposure of closer than 6 feet. It's not clear if a playground would qualify as a prolonged exposure since they are not consistently within 6 feet. The rules are not clear and that creates anxiety. I suspect that the unmasked moms were not violating the rules, but some people think the rules are more restrictive than they really are
