I’m OP. Mom ignored weeks of emails about her son’s missing work and lack of engagement but is upset enough to write me because I call her son his first name and the initial of his last name.

I’m mulling writing a chirpy email that I’m relieved to learn her email is correct and the sound on his computer works during Zoom. Let’s talk about how to help him avoid failing this new quarter. [/quote]

I'm not a teacher but the teacher is 100% right in this situation. The parent of Larlo sounds like they are a real piece of work and have the issues, not Larlo. Especially for not responding to your previous emails.  I would absolute write back saying "Thank you for the email, I did not know bc Larlo never mentioned it. Is there something else that Larlo would like to be called?" And then in a new paragraph ask if she has received the emails that you have sent regarding Larlo. And YOU copy the principal on the email letting them be aware of the situation. [/quote]
