The invitation to join the league was extended to all former DA Clubs. As a former DA Club, Arlington was invited to join the MLS league. They declined, for now. They said that, currently, ECNL is the only ESTABLISHED national league. MLS may get there, but there is too much uncertainty in this current environment to join up with a league that is brand new. They said that the door is open for Clubs that declined the initial invitation to join at a later date. All good, no drama.
ECNL for boys is worse than CCL.
Really? I'm an Arlington parent and I would have gone to MLS instead of ECNL, but of course no one asked me...
Yes. This annoyed me too. Why didn't they ask the parents or the kids what they wanted? I think things will basically be OK because the DA director will work his butt off arragning games outside the regular schedule with MLS teams, ex DA teams, and the better ECNL teams from Maryland. But within the MA ECNL league at least half the games, maybe three quarters, will be a waste of time :-(.
Judging by this weekend against VDA, which should have been one of our stronger opponents, most of the games within VA will not be competitive at all. Hopefully Richmond has remained competitive - and it's just possible Loudoun will be although I'm skeptical. But - as the PP notes, the DA director will work his butt off arranging more competitive games outside the league schedule - the Greenville club is strong, and a couple of the other Carolina clubs have some stronger teams - so things should be a little better once we can travel outside the state - if the above concerns are correct we should get through to the ECNL national competition level where the teams will be stronger. All in all I still wish we had hung around and joined the MLS league. But we didn't. And I too wish the club had consulted with the coaches, parents and kids before making the decision :-(. Perhaps we will rejoin MLS league next year. Here's hoping.
