Ya'll DC is in the deep south. Virginia was the capitol of the Confederacy. Have you never looked up at Lee Mansion on the hill in Arlington?
Actually it is the Custis Lee mansion, built by slaves owned by Martha Custis Washington. From that vantage point look across the river to Georgetown University whose slaves were sold to build part of the school. Look down the mall to the Capitol which was built by slaves. Go to any of the Union forts scattered around Arlington and Alexandria that were built by freed slaves impressed by the Union Army. Slavery tainted many who are considered heroes. But then zikysses Hrsntbfid make his wife sell her slaves because he was an abolitionist.
