ACT needs to cancel the June test right now. At this point, only a fraction appear to be able to take it, which isn't equitable. It wouldn't hurt for the schools to stop this nonsense by stating that tests are not required for the class of 2021. At this point, kids likely will only have one option to take the test, which stinks, and some may have to study for five extra weeks when they were prepared to take it in April. It's causing so much additional stress, during a stressful time.
But many 2021 students already took it prior to March closings. At this point, unless a college is truly “test blind”, they may opt to go test optional which means kids who have a decent score prior to March will be in the drivers seat.
Many kids want to take it twice, and many, many kids were planning to take their first test in April. Just because your kid got one in doesn't mean they should be given any sort of priority.
Having a decent score is definitely a good thing. But test optional schools have said that kids who don't submit a scores won't be considered unfavorably and it won't hurt their chances of admission. I hope this is true.
Test optional means they will scrutinize other parts of application even more. If you’re a 2021er, and you needed that test score to “boost” your overall application? You’re at a disadvantage because there are a number of kids who already tested prior to March. Odds are, some got a decent score.
I know and I'm sad for my student who tests really well but may never get to take the SAT/ACT at all.
