Hogan is restoring my faith in humanity. He is the sense of order we crave in a nation swallowed in confusion, stupidity and divisions that are turning into chasms. I am a AA Republican that sat out the Trump election because he is not a true Republican. He switched from a Democrat and does not possess many traits of a Republican leader.
Hogan is restoring my faith in the two-party system. I'm a true-blue Montgomery County liberal Democrat. I didn't even vote for Hogan. But he shows how bipartisanship works. In Montgomery County, we have the double-edge sword problem of everyone being a Democrat. On one hand, I personally would not vote for any Republican because I disagree with their policies. But one-party governance breeds corruption. It doesn't work in China, it doesn't work in Cuba, and it doesn't work in Russia (functionally a one-party system), and it doesn't work in Baltimore and it's not great in MoCo. You need to have competitive elections. But at the federal level, there isn't much bipartisanship at work either. Mitch McConnell just sits there and blocks everything. Hogan is a center-right Republican governing a very Democratic, anti-Trump state. The legislature in Annapolis is veto-proof supermajority Democratic, with the General Assembly ranging from moderate to far left (we have two or three Democratic Socialists among our state delegates). And lo and behold... they GET THINGS DONE in Annapolis. I know people like to point out corruption in Baltimore, but Maryland as a state is blessed with good governance. Hogan is a Republican who believes in science and facts, and makes compromises with Annapolis Democrats on pocketbook issues. I am thoroughly impressed.
