Why do people ask for opinions and then get mad when people reply with opinions. Wesley is fine. The rest of those names sound like kids in a documentary about Appalachian kids with Mountain Dew mouth.
Op here: where did I get mad? I haven’t gotten mad once. lol I said give me opinions and I can take it. I’m not going to go cry if you hate my names haha
OP my taste in baby names is so far removed from yours that I can't offer helpful advice here, but I do like this attitude. Seriously, no one should let DCUM hurt their feelings on baby names and you shouldn't think that it's targeted at you because you have unusual taste. In recent history people on these thread have called Veronica and Victoria trashy, said that Annie means "crazy, ugly woman," and called Bella a dog's name. Half of the people here are either trolling or nuts when it comes to approving or panning names lists, I think it's really only good for name suggestions because sometimes people give you ideas you hadn't thought of yourself.
Op here: I agree! I knew that a lot of people would probably hate my names as they are not the typical Sarah and Ava, etc. that you see. I definitely like more unique names HOWEVER, I don’t want to name my baby something so bad that he/she will hate me for it haha I’m truly open to honest feedback and recommendations and will not be hurt if 90% of you all say you absolutely loathe my choices! So again, 100% open to suggestions that are unique but not too out there!
Hi OP - I also like really unique names (many of which you may deem too 'out there'), although I also like many ultra traditional names as well. I applaud you for staying true to yourself, and you should not listen to strangers on DCUM as authoritative sources on names. However, there are some posters who have made some good points that you really should consider. The biggest point is that you say that you want unique names, however, many of the names that you have listed are trendy rather than unique. And being both trendy and unique is mutually exclusive. I'd step back and think about your statement that you want a name to be 'unique' but also 'not too out there'. Unique by definition is "one of a kind". Are you truly seeking a one of a kind name for you baby? Perhaps you are seeking a name that is not especially common, for example a name not on the top 100 list for the US. Many people criticize celebrity baby names for being too 'out there' but on the other hand many are truly unique. Frankly it does not sound like you are truly seeking a unique name. As other have mentioned, it is very trendy at the moment to pick a vaguely WASPy sounding surname to use for your baby's given name. Around half or more of your names follow this pattern. Another trend for boys names is to pick vaguely 'western' sounding names. Again, half of your names follow this pattern. It is in fact pretty easy to tell which names are trendy. "Leighton" for example was not within the top 1000 names for the past century. Since 2000, it has spiked to reach above the top 500. I encourage you to use data to support your feelings on whether or not a name is popular and trendy. Did you know that Leighton is currently more popular than Marie, Leslie, or Anne? Finally, based on your selections, to me it doesn't sound like you seeking a truly unique name for your baby. However, in order to make this a helpful post instead of just a critical or snarky one, I have shared some suggestions below. None of these names are within the top 500. Most are not within the top 1000, although there are a few in the 900s. Best wishes to you.
