Apparently, the Kate's and TLC's legal team felt that they could continue filming.  So that's what they did.

I don't understand the legalities of it all but Jon had apparently been on board with the reality show for YEARS....until he wasn't.  Jon just wanted to walk away with his cut of the money.[/quote]

What greedy Kate and greedy tlc execs thought is irrelevant.  What they did was illegal.  Jon was paid as part of the show.  He walked away from making more money off his kids b/c he felt and the courts agreed that being on a tv show was harmful to them.[/quote]
