My guess is abusive.  He asked her to work there after he found out her dad died (so she is vulnerable) and they made a point of saying he was much older.  He also gives off a bit of a creep vibe to me.  Not sure why.  [/quote]

I was thinking that he assaulted her or something too.... BUT, Kate didn't throw away the polaroid picture or destroy it or anything when she found it.  She seemed to put it back in with the rest of the pics.  I don't think she'd keep the picture if he was abusive to her.  I wonder if it was drug abuse or suicide.... something that she would pity about her past, but not want to destroy the reminder.[/quote]

I agree with this. I was waiting to see if she crumpled up the picture or destroyed it, but she didn't. So maybe it will be something like suicide.  In any case, it made me happy to see Kate as a happy teen. And now that I know that it was just Kate and Rebecca living together during that first year after Jack's death gives me new insight into why Kate's adult relationship with Rebecca. What a weird dynamic it must have been going from 5 people down to 2.[/quote]
