https://www.washlaw.org/e-w-stokes-charter-school-wrongfully-bars-parent-from-kindergarten-graduation-elementary-school-for-five-years/ Apparently a Stokes staffer pushed a child and when the parent complained she was barred? Now I don't know *how* she complained but I could understand being pretty heated in this situation myself.
This lawsuit makes it sound as if Stokes is being run by abusive jailhouse wardens—not educators. If true, I wouldn’t send my dog to Stokes. This mother must not have any other school options.
That's very possible in DC where you have to literally win the lottery to get into a good school, and if this family lives EOTR they probably don't have even good enough neighborhood schools, let alone really good or average ones.
According to the address on the barring notice, they are zoned for Maury. They have options. Personally, if I felt the way this parent did and had concerns about mistreatment, I'd pull my kids out. The lawsuit is one thing, and I agree that advocating for your children is important, but if you truly feared the safety of your children, why "keep them in danger". Both sides may have mishandled the situation, but I see an opportunist on this parent's side.
