This is what I think.  What about calling it a sabbatical or something and you can use those 6 months to care for your child or go live in Italy and learn Italian.  It just give people more leave and they can use it however they want.[/quote]

Well the good thing is that the leave is offered to anyone who has a baby.  Oh, your children are grown?  Have another.  Adoption is included if you are beyond child-bearing age or infertile.  There you go, problem solved.[/quote]
